Bridging the 8429 km between our two countries
“Clean Transportation” Environment Focus of the Norwegian and Japanese Maritime Industry

Seminar April 8, 2008 at The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Tokyo

Stein Saugnes - ( stein[dot]saugnes[at]nccj[dot]or[dot]jp ) , Tue 25 Mar 2008

Norway and Japan are both leading shipping countries, and Norwegian shipping companies are vital partners for Japanese companies and industries, delivering key exports to markets worldwide. However, international shipping is a major contributor to global CO2 emissions, and with increasing focus on environment and climate changes, the shipping industry in both countries are now actively pursuing means of reducing the “carbon footprint” of the sector by moving towards “cleaner transportation”.

The aim of this seminar is to create an arena for discussion of the challenges, strategies and experiences of reducing energy and environmental impact of the Norwegian and Japanese shipping industry. The seminar is by invitation only, and participants includes representatives from Japanese and Norwegian government, industry and research.
